Mahmudur Rahman Manna Declares Support for NCP Over Shapla Symbol

Mahmudur Rahman Manna, president of Nagorik Oikya, declared he won’t pursue legal action if the Election Commission allocates the Shapla (Water Lily) symbol to the National Citizen Party (NCP). He explained his stance on Facebook, expressing sympathy for NCP’s leaders and their struggle against Sheikh Hasina’s rule.

Mahmudur Rahman Manna, president of Nagorik Oikya, has announced that he will not file any case if the National Citizen Party (NCP) is given the Shapla (Water Lily) symbol. He made the statement on Thursday (October 2) through a post on his verified Facebook page.

In his post, Manna wrote:
“If the Shapla symbol is given to them (NCP), I will not file any case.”

In a follow-up comment, he added that if he is denied the Shapla symbol because of its national emblem status, then the Election Commission should not grant it to anyone else either. According to Manna, NCP leaders approached him, and considering their age, political experience, and shared goal of ending Sheikh Hasina’s “fascism,” he feels sympathetic towards them. Therefore, he pledged that if NCP gets the symbol, he will not take any legal action.
