Around 500 Bhories of Gold Looted from Jewellery Shop in Dhaka’s Mouchak
Around 500 bhories of gold ornaments were reportedly stolen in a daring burglary early today at a jewellery shop inside Fortune Shopping Mall in Dhaka’s Mouchak area, the owner claimed.
The burglary occurred around 3:00am at Shampa Jewellers, situated on the mall’s first floor.
According to shop owner Achintyo Kumar Biswas, CCTV footage captured two individuals wearing burqas entering the market, cutting the shutter lock, and looting the gold ornaments.
He said the store had about 400 bhories of gold ornaments on display and another 100 bhories kept as mortgaged gold, along with some cash. “The burglars took everything, including the cash,” he added.
“I closed my shop at around 9:00pm as usual and went home. Early in the morning, the market’s security guard called me to say there was a problem at my shop. When I arrived, I saw everything was gone,” said Achintyo.
Mazharul Islam, assistant commissioner of Ramna Zone, said, “The owner alleged that around 500 bhories of gold were stolen from the shop, and we are investigating the incident.”
Police and members of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) visited the scene this morning to collect evidence.
